Enrollment at Helix Charter High School

  • Lottery results for the 2024-2025 school year were emailed on Friday, March 8. You can log in your SchoolMint account to find your waitlist number. You can still apply but will be added to the waitlist. If you applied for grades 10, 11 or 12, your waitlist number is SchoolMint is correct but upper grade applicants will be notified in early June 2024 of results once we know how many open spots we have in each grade.

We are a charter school, so ALL new students must go through this 2-step enrollment process:

Step 1 - Watch the Enrollment Informational Video

Is Helix the right school for your student? Watch the video below (or register for a tour below), which covers the requirements for Helix students & explains the lottery process. This is an important and required step before you apply.

    The lottery priorities are:

    1. Siblings of returning students

    2. Residents in the Helix attendance boundary

    3. Children of employees

    4. Students who make a two-year commitment to be in the Bagpipe program*

    5. Residents in the Grossmont Union High School District attendance boundary will have a 60% weighted preference and all other applicants will have a 40% weighted preference.

*Students selecting the bagpipes on their application must be fully committed and attend an informational meeting with the band directors to determine if they are a good fit. This is a serious commitment, and we want to make sure anyone applying for the program understands the level of responsibility. The Info Meetings will be held on Tuesday, January 30 at 6pm (FULL) and Tuesday, February 27 at 6pm in the Helix library. You only need to attend 1 meeting. Please bring your student if possible. Click here to RSVP. If you already have any of the 3 priorities listed above, you do not need to select bagpipes as a way of improving your chances of being enrolled.

Lottery Results

  • The lottery will be held electronically and results will be announced via email on Friday, March 8. Applications will be considered by grade level. If there are enough open seats for prospective students at a given grade level, all students at that grade level will be granted enrollment. If there are more prospective students than openings at a given grade level, a waitlist will be created. Students whose applications are submitted after the deadline will be placed on the waitlist in the order in which their application is received. If you'd like to check your waitlist number, please log in to your SchoolMint account to find it.

If Accepted:

  • If your student is accepted, you will receive an email with instructions for logging into your SchoolMint Account to accept or withdraw your application. If you accept, you are committing to the following next steps, which we will contact you about:

    • Student Orientation On-Campus
    • Online Enrollment
    • Summer Conferencing On-Campus

If Waitlisted:

  • You will receive an email from SchoolMint advising of your waitlisted status. You can log in to your SchoolMint account to check your waitlist number. If your status moves to accepted, you will receive another email. This may happen as seats will open.

    • All students will be admitted in the order of lottery results.
    • If you applied for grades 10, 11 or 12, you will automatically be placed on the waitlist and notified in late May / early June 2024 if you are accepted once we know how much space we have for incoming students.
    • Calling, emailing or coming to campus is not necessary to inform the team of your desire to attend Helix.
    • Moving into the area after you have been placed on the waitlist will not alter your placement.
