Helix Charter High School is a comprehensive high school, located in La Mesa, California. Helix opened in 1951 and served the community as a traditional public high school until we converted to a charter school in 1998. Helix was the first public comprehensive high school in California to convert to a charter high school, and while much about the educational program has changed to best serve the student population, the tradition of the school has remained. Helix boasts a history of academic excellence, outstanding arts, athletics, and activities and it continues to serve as a community school, while welcoming those in the surrounding areas through its charter status.

Spring break is from from March 14 through 28. We will welcome students back on Monday, March 31 for the first day of Spring Semester II.

We are excited to share Helix's recent commitment to being a Power100 Champion with San Diego Community Power. This means 100% of the electricity powering our campus is renewable and carbon free at all times of day! Helix is proud to be one of the first public schools in the county to make this commitment!

This achievement is a result of the advocacy and student leadership of the Student Office of Sustainability (SOS) and Environmental Club. The SOS team created a comprehensive campus sustainability action plan during the 2023-24 school year with the support of the City of La Mesa's Environmental Sustainability Commission. We are making progress in our first priority areas (energy generation/reduction, environmental literacy/curriculum, waste).
