QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ADDENDUM |
Question 1: The RFP requests Cisco SKU WS-C2960X-48FPD-L however Cisco has an education SKU (EDU-C2960X-48FPD-L) which increases your free services from 1 year to 3 years. So you would receive 3 years of software updates, 3 years of TAC access, and 3 years services duration instead of the standard 1 year and in addition, you’d receive lifetime next-business-day (NBD) hardware replacement instead of the standard 3 years advanced hardware replacement (and to get the 3 years you’d have to renew the CON-SW in years 2 and 3), so it’s a really good deal. With that said, what is Helix’s preference – should we quote WS-C2960X-48FPD-L or EDU-C2960X-48FPD-L?
Answer 1: If the educational SKU is eligible for E-Rate funding then please use that SKU.
Question 2: Page 1 and 4 of the RFP indicates that the school will complete installation however on page 6 it is unclear if Helix is asking for installation on the VMware Upgrade? Can you please clarify.
Answer 2: Helix will be installing the VMware upgrade.
Question 3: Can we assume standard default power cord for US for the Cisco switches? (AC Power cord, 16AWG)
Answer 3: Yes, that is correct.
Question 4: Are any stacking modules needed on any of these Cisco switches? (C2960X-STACK, $1195 list each)
Answer 4: No, we would like to connect them together in each of the IDFs with 10Gb Interconnect cables.
Question 5: For the Cisco Smartnet option, what level of Smartnet did you want to consider? Choices are 8x5 next business day hw replacement, 24x7 4 hour hw replacement, 8x5 4 hour hw replacement? All choices include the 24 hour access to TAC of course.
Answer 5: As we are going to maintain several spares in inventory, 8x5 4 hour hardware replacement would be preferable.
Question 6: If bidder quotes the specific Cisco switch model that is called out in the RFP (WS-C2960X-48FPD-L), do the 5 questions in the RFP need to be answered? My assumption is you’ve selected this model because it meets or you know those 5 requirement; the questions are more geared for bidders that chose alternate switches and you need to confirm they are sufficient. These are the questions I am referring to from RFP:
Answer 6: Yes, we are looking for that model or equivalent based upon these specs:
1. 10Mbps/100Mbps/1Gbps/10Gbps Ethernet inter-connectivity to the network (with a minimum of 48 copper 1Gb ethernet ports) 2. Ability to handle fiber connectivity for switch-to-switch connections 3. Power Over Ethernet (POE) to provide electrical power to our current VOIP phones and wireless access points (with a minimum distributed 740W capability) 4. Ability to be mounted in a standard size rack 5. Switch dimensions/space used in rack, generally described in “U” (1U units each)
Question 7: (Regarding a VMware license key of ours that does not show up on VMware's site) Can you check on that second key?
Answer 7: That license key is actually valid. That instance/license of VMware was sold to us as a "pre-packaged" version of VMware on two Cisco UCS VOIP servers that we purchased.

Question 9: How fast is the Internet connection?
Answer 9: 6 Gigabit.
Question 10: What are the desired capabilities of the firewall/IPS device?
Answer 10: NG Firewall/IPS, Web Protection and Content Filtering.
Question 11: What kind of traffic will pass through the firewall/IPS device?
Answer 11: There will be no site-to-site VPN traffic, approximately 6Gb of throughput at any given time, and no on-site web servers.
Question 12: Will you want the firewall to share intelligence with your existing Sophos endpoint agents?
Answer 12: Yes.
