No Child Left Behind Act

Parent Notifcation Letter

In keeping with our commitment to inform parents of changes in federal, state, and local legislation, this is an update on the new requirements of the Title I program specifically with respect to the recently signed No Child Left Behind Act. As you are probably aware, Helix has participated in the supplemental Title I Program for several years. This program provides funds to help improve the math and reading achievement of our students. The purpose of this update is to share with you some of the new provisions under the No Child Left Behind act that relate to schools receiving Title I Program funding.

As a parent or guardian of a student attending a Title I school, you have the right to request the professional qualifications, including the following:

  • The teacher has met California qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject matter he or she teaches.
  • The teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualifications or licensing criteria have been waived.
  • The teacher’s college major, any graduate certification or degrees and the field of discipline of those certificates or degrees.
  • Teacher’s aides or similar paraprofessionals provide services to your children and if they do, their qualifications.

Helix Charter High School is looking forward to a year of educational success and continuous improvement for all students. Thank you for your ongoing support of our students and our school community. Should you have any questions regarding this update, please contact me at (619) 644-1940 ext. 112.
