Medical Excuses: (top)
It is the philosophy of the Helix Charter High School Physical Education
Department to mdo everything possible to ensure a student will receive
credit for phsical education even with a doctor's note.
A student in Division 1 or 2 with a doctor's note for 15
days or less will be given a "c" for that specified
period of time as long as the student continues to attnd
class. To potentially receive higher grade the student will
need to make up time missed and competencies or standards
missed while medically exused
A student in division 1 who has a doctor's note for 15 days
or more, but lkess than 2 years and cannot meet the standards
will be enrolled at a later date when they can met the standards
A student in Division 1 who has a doctor's note for more
than 15 days will be given physical education credit if the
student can meet the majority of the class standards. If
unable to meet this requirement the student may be given
Modifed Physical Education credit as long as he/she meet
all the criteria. This change is initiated with a doctor's
note, school nurse verification, and finally sent to the
grade level team for official modification.
Asthma sufers need to provide a doctor's note to their teacher
and have a medication form on file with the school nurse
in order to carry inhaler on campus.
Tardy Policy: The physical education department will follow the school
tardy policy. (tardy less than 30 minutes – 3 equals an absence;
tardy more than 30 minutes equal an absence)
Make-up Policy: Non-participation days and non-suits may be made up through
arrangements with your Physical Education Teacher (ExL, Study Hall, or
Tutorial).
If you teacher assigns you tutorial it is mandatory. Tutorial time can
be used to make-up absences, non-suits, non-participation days, written
work or tests, or practical tests. You must dress in your physical education
uniform and report to the assigned area on time.
If you arrange to make-up during ExL or Study Hall you will be assigned
to a class and must dress and participate the entire class period to receive
make-up credit.
If you make-up during tutorial you are required to complete 6 laps (1 1/2
miles) within 30 minutes for every class except swimming. During swimming
you report to the pool and swim laps assigned by your teacher. Tutorial
make-up must be completed under supervision.

from this requirement. (Parent notes are good for up to 3 days and must
be made up and Doctor’s notes are for the period specified and the
student will receive credit--C points for the run)
The minimum jogging standard in order to pass physical education at the
quarter: Jog every time the class is asked to jog with obvious effort toward
