Helping East County Youth
ORGANIZATION:
La Mesa Police OfficerÕs Association: ÒOfficers Helping East County YouthÓ
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of the program is to provide financial
assistance to underprivileged youth at Helix High School and eventually to youth
in other East County schools. The
financial assistance would be used to purchase items such as sports equipment,
musical instruments, art supplies, etc.
TARGET GROUP:
Youth that would not be able to participate in an activity without the required items and/or youth with an added or above average skill level that could benefit further from better equipment
Youth that is not actively involved or associated with a
street gang
Youth that is academically eligible to participate in the
event that is being sponsored
Youth enrolled at Helix High School (eventually the
surrounding East County schools)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Coaches, teachers, and the School Resource Officer know the youth around them very well and can often determine if someone is in need and refer students to the program.
FUNDING:
Non profit organization (no one will make any money from
this organization. ALL the money
donated to this organization will be spent on the youth that need assistance)
Funding will come from the donations of private individuals, business organizations, and the La Mesa Police OfficerÕs Association.
BENEFITS:
This organization is
designed to provide the youth in East County (primarily at Helix High School)
with the needed equipment and supplies to participate and succeed in their
desired activity. Many times,
police officers are seen in a negative light because of the continual negative
contacts that they may have with the community.
This organization allows
officers to be directly involved in the communication with the youth and the
purchase and delivery of the items.
This is in hopes of building self esteem in the youth and bringing a positive
contact between the youth and the officer. This program is designed to show that the police officers in
their community care about the kids and the community they work in.
