present, called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. November 14, in the Library

1. President Peterson reported there was no action taken in closed session.
A. Approval of Minutes of April 25, 2006.
On motion of Member Crabtree, seconded by Member Koppman-Gue the board approved the minutes, with all in favor and the change made to: Item B, #4 to state: The motion passed with six in favor and one abstention.
B. Approval of Agenda
On motion of Member Koppman-Gue, seconded by Member Geary the board approved the agenda, with all in favor.

On motion of Member Singer, seconded by Member Sutton the board approved the financial report, with all in favor.

Member Aceves the board approved the cross country team to travel to
2. Approval of Letters to Request CAHSEE Waivers
On motion of Member Crabtree, seconded by Member Singer, in accordance with Charter Board policy 6181.2, the board approved waivers to the parents who requested such waivers. This motion passed with all in favor.
3. Approval of Graduation of Designated Students Through Alternate Means for 2006 Only.
On motion of Member Singer, seconded by Member Crabtree the board approved those students to graduate (this year only) that will use alternate means to satisfy what is required in the exit exam.
4. CAHSEE Suspension 2006 Only
On motion of Member Sutton, seconded by Member Singer the board approved allowing seniors to participate in the graduation ceremonies, but not to receive a diploma until the results are obtained from their CAHSEE.
C. Student’s Report
Rachel Graham and Spencer Spagnola gave their report of May and June and listed the ASB and other activities through the end of the school year.
D. Principal
1. Jen Osborn reported she was still in need of senior board judges and to contact her if you knew of anyone. She stated the Grape Escape was a success.
2. Dr. Smith stated that the performance of Grease, by our Performing Arts department was outstanding.
VI. Communication on
Items Not on the Agenda
A. Board Communication
John Geary stated he read an article about parents offering hotel rooms to graduating students and felt this might have some merit and something we might want to consider talking to our students about.
Ed Aceves reiterated that the Grape Escape was well attended.
Cathy Singer stated Helix received the 1st Chance Award for our SPARC. There were four other Grossmont schools that also received awards for their SPARCs.
Choral Pops will perform this Saturday and Sunday in the gym.
John Geary spouted the success of our Alternative Ed. program and asked that teachers Becky Kiesz and Brian Patterson report on their program at the August board meeting.
